I’ve read that you’ve been doing freelance design now for alittle over 2 years. What was your big break into designing for bands and clothing companies?
I would contribute a lot of my success and good fortune to emptees. It is through that website that the majority of my initial clients found me and from that website, it’s members and the projects I received from it, that I have learnt the most about being a designer. I joined the site at just the right time; it was relatively new and people were beginning to discover it, the content quality was really high and the community was very encouraging.
Initially, I wasn’t aiming to get hired or to be a designer. I started posting my designs on the internet as I enjoyed sharing my creations. I didn’t realise or even consider that it would be possible to make a living from designing. I was mainly interested in being a better artist. When I started to receive purchase inquiries regarding various pre-made pieces, I didn’t understand completely but was very excited and enthusiastic about everything. I kept posting designs and it all took off from there.

You’re well known for designing a new piece every day. Being that you create so many illustrations, what is your favorite piece that you’ve done?
I would have trouble picking out a single favourite piece of my work. The following designs have the most qualities that I try to capture in my work. I would state these as being my current favourites:
Emptees – Tees – “#496 – All in Good Time” by Greg Abbott
Emptees – Tees – “#395 – Frames” by Greg Abbott
Emptees – Tees – “#499 – Somethings” by Greg Abbott

Describe what your typical work day is like.
Priority Order:

With so many projects already under your belt, what would your dream project be?
I’d love to have my own cartoon show or animation. Otherwise I’d say full creative control over a vinyl / plush toy project. If there was a project that combined all of those things, that would be it.
Are their any other artists whose work you admire?
What bands have you been listening to recently?
Recently, I’ve mainly been listening to generic lo-fi indie bands.
